2021 Mustang Mach E

Get ready for the past and future to collide. The all-new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E was inspired by their pony car of recent decades, but this one is fully-electric and is, as you may have noticed, an SUV.

This is a very different Mustang than you’re used to. It has some features that may surprise you. This is Ford’s first crossover in the era of electric vehicles, an SUV that will be competing with the Tesla Model Y in today’s market.

From price and performance to unique features and more, here is what you will love about the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E.

At a Glance

There are 5 different 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E model types. From lowest to highest price (depending on options) they are called Select, Premium, California Route 1, GT, First Edition, and GT.

The base model (Select) starts around $43,995 before any EV or state credits, has 266 horsepower, and gives you about 250 miles of range. The top-end version (California Route 1) has a starting price of around $50,900 pre-credits, has 480 horsepower, and about the same range as the base model.

There is a middle version (Premium) that does about 300 miles of range, which is the Mach-E’s maximum. This starts at around $48,200.

There are two battery sizes available, and you can choose from either rear- or all-wheel drive. The beautiful cabin can fit five passengers and offers state-of-the-art infotainment options, and you’ll love the interior’s contemporary features and clever storage solutions.

Ford chose to use the name Mustang, as well as a few of the classic design cues, to increase interest, and it does the name justice, preserving that Mustang-quality performance. The “Mach-E” moniker pays homage to “Mach 1”, Ford’s high-performance Mustangs of the past. Let’s take a closer look.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium Model

The smartest choice for many people seems to be the Premium model because you can get a 300-mile driving range if combined with the rear-wheel drive and extended-range battery. The all-wheel-drive model, on the other hand, brings the driving range down to 270 miles, so it’s a bit of a trade-off if you go that route.

The Mach-3 Premium also offers 19-inch wheels, a power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and charges up even faster than the base model.

Mustang Mach-E’s Performance

Choose between the standard-range or the extended-range batteries. With standard, you’re looking at 75.7 kWh while with the extended you have 98.8 kWh. These batteries power either the electric motor mounted on the rear axle (rear-wheel drive) or both axles (all-wheel drive).

Mustang Mach-E specs can be found here.

Mustang Mach-E Speed

The all-wheel-drive GT and GT Performance models are sporty and lots of fun, their engines combining to give you up to 634 lb-ft of torque and 480 horsepower. The GT Performance will get you from zero to 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds.

With the less powerful models, you’ll have between 255-332 horses and 306-417 lb-ft torque.

Driving Experience

Wheels on all models range from 18-20 inches, and you have the choice to adjust your ride firmness with their adaptive dampers. The all-wheel-drive model extended range model is quiet, smooth, quick, and gives a better driving experience than most crossovers, but don’t expect the Mach-E to give you that specific sound and feel you come to expect from traditional Mustangs.

Battery Life

Estimated by the EPA, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E offers a mile range between 210-300, but this depends on the type of electric motors and battery pack. With every model, there are fast-charging capabilities and a Ford mobile charger included.

This charger adds up to 30 miles of range per 8-hour charge if you’re using a 120-volt outlet. A 240-volt outlet will increase your battery life up to 80%.

Order your charge station online and certified electricians will install it for you. These are a must to replenish your mileage by 32 MPH and have the overnight charging capability you’ll want.

Exterior Features

You have one key fob, but if you have a smartphone you don’t even need it. There’s an app you can download that syncs up with the car. With this app, you can check your mileage, lock and unlock the doors, roll the windows up and down, and even start the car.

If you have your phone on you, the car will sense it and the door will unlock. But there are no traditional handles on the doors. Instead, you’ll see a small protruding handle on each of the front doors.

Press the little button on the door and it’ll open slightly but no more than that. Why? This happens so that the door doesn’t hit your body or anything else as it opens.

If you try to close the door from this slightly opened position, it won’t let you. This safety feature prevents you from slamming your fingers in the door. You must open it more, and then close it, which isn’t an inconvenience and seems worth the extra step.

The back doors only have the button, because, during user tests, people didn’t use the little handle. They used the side of the door to open it, so they removed it.

There is a keypad entry display that illuminates when you approach, but no need to use it unless you choose to. These lights disappear as you walk away from the vehicle so they don’t detract from the visual appeal or attract car thieves.

Interior Features

As you climb inside this beautiful electric vehicle, you see a center console featuring a flip-up, floating armrest so items can easily be stored between the passengers sitting in the front seats. Enjoy the interior lighting — It’s ambient and customizable.

The Mustang Mach-E has maximum cargo space because the battery is under the floor of the vehicle. This also gives you maximum passenger space which adds to the comfort.

Inside, you won’t recognize it as a mustang, but it has a lot of cool features like a streamlined digital interface and more.

Infotainment and More

Ford gives you their SYNC infotainment system, which is next-generation and fully customizable, as we mentioned above. There is an array of apps and features accessible via the 15.5-inch touchscreen.

The digital gauge cluster is attractive and mounted vertically for your convenience. Near the bottom of the touchscreen is a real, ergonomic dial that you can use to adjust the audio volume and other selected features shown on the screen.

It displays your driver profile (as of now you can have up to 3). View your profile by touching your photo at the top. You’ll see here that the car actually tailors its range estimate, mpg, and more according to your individual driving habits.

Updates will be rolled out automatically as the system improves and adds to the content. Currently, the top features offered by the Mustang Mach-E’s system are Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and of course the impeccable audio.

The front seats and steering wheel are heated. And, you can charge your devices wirelessly in your futuristic Mustang Mach-E. Enjoy the panoramic sunroof and the premium Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Storage Space

Behind the rear seats, the Ford Mach-E gives you 29 cubic feet of easy-to-clean cargo space. When the back seats are folded down, you have 60. The trunk plastic is durable and can be rinsed and drained in case of any messes or spills.
