2020 Ford F150

The Ford F-150 is one of the iconic American pickup trucks.

In fact, the Ford F-Series consistently ranks as the best selling line of vehicles in the US. The F-Series dates all the way back to the 1940s.

The new 2020 Ford F-150 pickup includes four trim levels as well as new driver-assistance features. The higher-tier models also come with more advanced features like adaptive cruise control and a built-in navigation system. New color options are also available.

The 2020 F-150 packs a punch with the turbocharged V6 engine, but what about performance and drivability? Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about this new truck.

What’s New in the 2020 Model?

In truth, not a whole lot has changed with the F-150 this year. Ford plans to do a full redesign for 2021. As far as the 2020 model goes, the truck has got some extra features that you’re bound to love.

Among others, the 2020 Ford-150 competes with Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Toyota Tundra.

You can now get the Power Stroke turbo-diesel V-6 for the XLT trucks. The Lariat model (one up from the XLT) now comes with a host of driver-assistance technology. Ford has called this ‘Co-Pilot360’.

These handy add-ons include blind-spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking.

The appearance of the standard XL trucks can now be extended with an STX Sport package. The XLT and Lariat trucks can also be modified with a Black Appearance package.

There are also some new colors to choose from, including Rapid Red Tinted Clearcoat, Star White Metallic Tri-Coat, and Iconic Silver.

Exterior

The new 2020 Ford F-150 trucks have a tough, hardy exterior. In fact, the body and bed of the trucks are made from military-grade aluminum.

This kind of aluminum isn’t the regular kind that you would find in your kitchen. This industrial aluminum is a special kind of alloy that is hardened and heat resistant.

The aluminum alloy is lightweight and resistant to denting. This allows for a sturdy build without making the trucks too heavy or bulky.

The F-150 4×4 models also have skid plates to protect the underbody when navigating rough terrain.

There’s also a wide range of styles to choose from when it comes to the grille and trim. This can give a unique, personalized feel to your truck. The new 2020 F-150’s design is modern and attractive.

Performance

The Ford Max trailer Tow package and the new 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 engine gives the F-150 the ability to handle massive loads. The F-150’s twin-turbo V6 engine is capable of towing a whopping 13,200 pounds.

And that’s not all. The twin-turbo regular unleaded V6 engine delivers an impressive 325 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Towing is safe and efficient with driver-assistant technologies such as hitch assist and blind-spot monitoring.

There is also a backup assist system that aligns with truck and trailer while in reverse. This helps the driver to reverse smoothly and maintain control.

When it comes to speed, the base 3.3-liter V6 engine isn’t the quickest. The other F-150 engines outrank it in performance. All engines except the base V6 come with a responsive 10-speed automatic.

The turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine is very powerful and can handle most conditions. The 3.5-liter turbo EcoBoost engine in the Raptor packs enormous power.

The ride in the Ford F-150 is bulky, as you would expect in a pickup truck. But it’s on par with any of the major competitors.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2020 F-150’s fuel efficiency isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s competitive for its class.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the base 3.3-liter V6 two-wheel-drive model at 19mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway. When it comes to the four-wheeled drive version, those figures drop by 1 or 2mpg.

The four-wheeled drive models with the 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 are slightly lower at 18mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway. Trucks with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 are rated an impressive 21mpg city and 29mpg highway.

Compared to its competitors, the Ford F-150 comes out on top. Why? Because the turbo-charged 2.7 and 3.5-liter V6 engines are slightly more efficient than the V8s of its rivals.

Interior

The new Ford F-150 has a comfortable interior, making it even more enjoyable to drive.

Depending on the model, you can choose from one of three different cab styles — Regular, Super, and SuperCrew. The regular cab option has seating for three with no rear seating. There is also minimal storage space behind the seats.

The Super Cab option comes with small doors that allow access to a small rear seat. It can seat up to six people in total.

The four-door SuperCrew offers the most storage and back seat space. It can seat up to six people, depending on the configuration you choose.

The front seats are both heated and ventilated. They are available in different styles, including cloth, sport cloth, and leather-trimmed. The F-150 comes with a few other interior features, including automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and wood trim.

There are further options available for increased comfort. This includes massaging seats and a panoramic sunroof.

There are also three different bed lengths available. You may choose which size suits you depending on your needs. Either way, there is plenty of storage space available, as you would expect in a pickup truck.

Safety Features

The Ford F-150 comes with several safety features. Most models are equipped with Ford’s Co-Pilot2360 package, a set of driver-assistance technologies.

Included within this are automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance. These features are also available for the XL and XLT models. The Limited and Platinum models can also be outfitted with adaptive cruise control.

Unlike competitors, these technologies come standard on many models instead of being part of expensive options packages.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rated the Regular Cab model four stars overall. The Regular Cab and SuperCab variants also earned four stars overall.

Except for headlights, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the F-150 as “good” in every category.

Fun Technology

All models except for the standard XL come equipped with Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system. This includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also has a WiFi hotspot and built-in navigation.

In truth, the Sync 3 system isn’t top of the range, and the touch screen is smaller than some competitors’. But at the end of the day, it does what it’s supposed to.

Most models can also be equipped with the FordPass Connect system. This allows you to monitor fuel levels and includes basic functions like a remote start.

The more expensive versions of the F-150 offer features such as a power-sliding rear window and a remote release for the tailgate. They also have power running boards that retract once the doors have closed.
