2019 Ford Explorer

The new Ford Explorers are ranked 8 out of 10. This ranking is based off of critics’ rating, performance, interior, safety and reliability. This rating helps put your mind at ease. You are getting a product that you can trust.

You want a vehicle you know you can trust no matter what you are doing. If you are going to work everyday, going on a long vacation, or hauling around a lot of cargo you want an SUV you can rely on.

Below we will be reviewing the benefits of the 2018 and 2019 Ford Explorer SUVs.

There weren’t many changes made between the 2018 and 2019 Ford Explorers. Thus, for the majority of this article we will be talking about them interchangeably.

Models of the New Ford Explorer

Let’s start off by going through the different models of the Ford Explorer so you know what is available to you. You have XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum models of the Ford Explorer. As you go down the line they will get more expensive, but they will have more features available.

For example, the Sport and Plantinum versions offer more standard features. This means you will have fewer additional features to pay for.

 

Ford’s Safe and Smart Package

Optional features in the safe and smart package are rain-sensing wipers, automatic emergency braking, park assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.

The next few features are optional in all the Ford Explorers except the Platinum model. These features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with brake support, and the lane-keeping system. These are all standard features in the Platinum model.

On the XLT a power liftgate is a standard feature. For the other models it is an optional feature.

The blind spot information system is a standard feature in the 2019 Ford Explorers. For the 2018 Ford Explorers it is part of the Safe and Smart Package.

Good Fuel Economy

 

Depending on the car model and type of gas you use (regular or E85) your mileage useage can vary. Yet, the Ford Explorer has good gas mileage for an SUV. The miles per gallon (mpg) in cities ranges from 13-19, with the mpg for highways ranging between 18-27.

Engine Performance

The new Ford Explorers offer three enginges you can choose from.

You can get the 290 horsepower (hp) 3.5-liter V-6 base engine with 255 lb.-ft. of torque (XLT and Limited). The 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder with 280 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque (XLT and Limited). Finally, the turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 with 365 hp with 350 lb.-ft. of torque (Sport and Platinum).

No matter the engine you use, they all come with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Available Seating

The Ford Explorers offer 7 seats with 3 rows of seating. You have the driver and passenger seat in the front of the vehicle, with three seats behind them. Behind the second row of seats you have the third row which comprises of 2 extra seats.

The second and third row of seats are adjustable. You can either have them up to allow people to sit in them, or you can lower them to have more space in your SUV.

So Much Space!

If you need to haul around a lot of groceries, supplies, or other items, the Ford Explorer offers a lot of space.

The second and third row of seats can be lowered offering you 81.7 cu. ft. total. If you just lower the third row you will have 43.9 cu. ft. at your disposal. If all seats are in their upright position, the back of the SUV will have 21 cu. ft. available to you.

Towing Capacity

All Ford Explorer models can easily handle 2,000 pounds. Some models can pull up to 5,000 pounds worth of weight. If you are hauling a lot of cargo, pulling around a small boat or trailer the Ford Explorer can handle your needs.

Additional Features for the New Ford Explorers

SYNC Infotainment System

The new Ford Explorers have a SYNC infotainment system (SYNC 3). They offer offer a 6 speaker system attached to an LCD touchscreen. Some models will offer up to 12 speakers.

The touchscreens can range form 4.2 – 8 inches in length. All touchscreens are compatabile with both Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Features included with SYNC 3 are GPS navigation, Satellite Radio, and voice control. On top of that, it displays your back-up rear view camera to allow for safer driving. Lastly, it connects with the controls on your steering wheel for easier use.

As an optional feature the Ford Explorers offer 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. This is a great feature when you pair it with the fact that you can have 10 devices connected at one time.

You can plug your devices in the SUV with the various USB ports in the vehicle.

Front-Wheel vs All-Wheel Drive

Front-wheel drive is standard in all Ford Explorer models. All-wheel drive and the multimode terrain-management system are optional in most Ford Explorers. You can get these as standard features if you buy the Ford Explorer Sport or Plantinum models.

Heated Seats

All new Ford Explorers have heated front-row seats. The Ford Explorer Sport models offer heated seats in the second row as well.

Going out onto the Open Road

When choosing a new Ford Explorer think about your needs and what best suits you. If you enjoy traveling Ford Explorers are a great option. They can pull around small boats and trailers that you can take with you on your road trip.
